It’s been a rough season for our bees, so I needed to mix up some sugar syrup to feed them this fall. Fall feed is typically 2:1 sugar to water by weight.
Here’s what 16 pounds of sugar looks like; this is how much gets dissolved in one gallon of water.


What made it a rough season? The heat and dryness? I haven’t seen many bees or butterflies here, but I put it down to the general decline of recent years.

They swarmed early in the season, didn’t requeen successfully, then lost another queen later in the season, so they just haven’t had a strong population.
