What a week

Snowed a lot this weekend. School was cancelled Monday through Wednesday, and Thursday through Monday are holiday days. So unexpected solid week and a half of no school.

Happily we had a trip with friends planned to an indoor water park for Friday; if we hadn’t, our last reserves of sanity might have slipped away, syphoned off by a certain bored 8 year old.

Hummingbirds

Thawing out the feeder or bringing it in for the night is an important part of the OMG snow in Seattle routine. Not sure what other food sources they have right now, if any; the amount of activity we see at the feeder in the morning seems to indicate hummingbird calories are pretty scarce right now.

Doorman

In-laws are showing up tomorrow. A part of the room they are staying in has been repurposed as the stair landing for the reversed stairs.

As if a few days ago, we hasn’t done anything to fix the gaping hole between the room and the ex-room-but-now-stair-landing bit simply because there were higher priority things to tackle. But the arrival of the in laws is a bit of a deadline in this part, so this weekend we made some progress:

Tomorrows plan is to obtain some drywall, install it, then hang the door; that should get us to functional-but-ugly, which should be fine for now.

I’m here!

This is, believe it or not, my first time in Mexico!

We did training today. Tiring but really good. I have a lot of respect for the coordinators and volunteers.

The situation on the ground is changing really quickly and not always for the better, so it’s not 100% clear what I’ll be doing to help out from day to day. I’ll report in as I can, but we have to keep a lot of information private for the safety of everyone involved.

Happy new year everyone!
